The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched by China in 2013, has emerged as a transformative framework for global connectivity, trade, and investment. Designed to revitalise historical trade routes and foster international cooperation, the BRI provides vast opportunities for businesses through expanded market access, large-scale infrastructure development, financial collaboration, and technological innovation. At the same time, it presents significant challenges, including geopolitical tensions, debt sustainability issues, regulatory complexities, and environmental concerns. This article examines both the opportunities and challenges of the BRI for international business, emphasising the need for strategic foresight, risk management, and sustainable practices. By adopting adaptive approaches, businesses can leverage the benefits of the BRI while mitigating its risks, thereby contributing to more balanced global economic integration.
