Abstract

The textile and garment sector is under increasing pressure to improve efficiency and minimize waste in its production operations. This paper provides a comprehensive framework for building lean manufacturing competencies that are specifically aimed at the role of Kaizen Man, who is responsible for implementing continuous improvement initiatives. We define the core capabilities required for the efficient implementation of Kaizen using a mixed methodology, which includes qualitative interviews with industry experts and quantitative surveys of practitioners. The findings indicate a need for technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of lean principles. We also provide a competency development program that includes training modules, mentoring, and hands-on experience in real-world scenarios.
